Introduction of Ranakpur 

Ranakpur is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Jainism. Ranakpur is one of the five holy places of the Jain community, nesting in a tranquil valley deep in the Aravalis. Ranakpur is located in the mountain ranges of Pali district which is about 23 km away from the Phalna railway station. Ranakpur is known for its famous Jain Temples. The Ranakpur Jain Temples were built under the reign of Rana Kumbha in the 15th century AD. The climate in Ranakpur is temperate. In Summers it is about 42.0° Celsius and in winters it is around 10.6° Celsius.


History of Ranakpur 

The Jain community had always enjoyed the patronage of the ruling family of Mewar. In the 15th century, Rana Kumbha of Mewar gave a large stretch of land in a quiet and picturesque valley, deep in the Aravalis to the Jains. This area came to be known as Ranakpur. Ranakpur is known for its famous Jain Temples. The Ranakpur Jain Temple were built under the reign of Rana Kumbha in the 15th century AD. The Ranakpur Jain temples is one of the most beautiful Jain temple. An enormous basement of this temple covers 48,000 square feet. There are four subsidiary shrines, twenty four pillared halls. The total number of columns is 1444, all of which are intricately carved, no two being alike. These temples are about 400 years old and even today these temples are well preserved in a perfect condition.

 

Tourist Attraction in Ranakpur 

The main tourist attraction in Ranakpur are the Ranakpur Jain Temples. The Ranakpur Jain temples were built under the reign of Rana Kumbha in the 15th century AD. Each temple provides an insight into the rich temple architecture of the medieval times. The most important temple is dedicated to Rishabhji. An enormous basement of this temple covers 48,000 square feet. The Rankpur Jain temples covers an area of 4500 square yards. Chaumukha, the central four-faced temple houses an idol of Jain Tirthankara Adinath. Rising to three stories, the temple has four small shrines with 80 spires supported by 420 columns. There are four subsidiary shrines, 24 pillared halls and in all 1444 columns. Each of the column are intricately carved and decorated with most elaborate sculptures and figures, no two being alike. Facing the main temple are two temples dedicated to Parasvanath and Neminath. The carving on these temples bear resemblance to those of Khajuraho.

 

How to get here

By Air:
The nearest airport is Udaipur which is about 80 km away.

By Rail:
Phalna is the nearest railway station located on the Delhi-Ahmedabad sector.

By Road:
A network of bus services joins Ranakpur with many nearby places.

Day 1: Udaipur - Ranakpur (about 90 km)
In the morning arrive at Udaipur airport or railway station. Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative and drive to Ranakpur. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel in Ranakpur. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Ranakpur
Today we have sightseeing in Ranakpur. Today we visit the Jain Temple in Ranakpur. The Ranakpur Jain temples were built during the reign of the Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. An enormous basement of this temple covers 48,000 square feet. There are four subsidiary shrines and twenty four pillared halls. Day 3: Ranakpur - Udaipur (about 90 km)
After having breakfast drive to Udaipur. Transfer to the airport or railway station.

A special effect is the amazing play of shadow, light and colours. As the sun rays shift through the day in the temple the color of the pillars changes from gold to pale blue. When the Mughal Emperor Akbar visited this temple he was full of admiration and he had made an inscription on one of the columns, which says, that no one ever will be allowed to destroy this jewel of architecture.
