Introduction of Bundi

A tiny picturesque town, Bundi is about 36 km from Kota. It is one of the unexplored cities with a rich historical wealth. Earlier Bundi was part of Kota and was ruled by the Hada Chauhans - an offshoot of the famous Chauhan clan who ruled Delhi and Ajmer. Bundi is surrounded by the Aravali hills on three sides and covers an area of 5628 square km. The climate in Bundi is tropical. In summers it is around 43.0° Celsius and in winters it is around 5.0° C. The best season to travel to Bundi is from August to February. The common languages which are spoken here are English, Hindi, Rajasthani and Marwari.

History of Bundi

In 1193 AD when Prithvi Raj Chauhan was defeated by Sultan Mohammed Ghauri, some Chauhan nobles seek shelter in Mewar and became allies to the Rana while other warriors moved towards the Chambal valley and overpowered the Meena and Bhil tribals - thus establishing their own kingdom of Hadoti. Later, two branches of Hadas formed two separate states of Kota and Bundi, on either side of the River Chambal.
Tourist Attraction in Bundi
Impressive medieval forts, palaces, havelis, temples with beautiful stone idols and chattris with carved pillars, along with a picturesque lake in the heart of the town, adds to the charm of Bundi. Bundi is very famous for its intricate carvings and murals. The main tourist attraction in Bundi is the Taragarh Fort. This interesting fort is worth exploring for hours. The fort has many reservoirs, which are annually emptied flooding the streets leading down to the city.

Jaipur - Bundi - Kota - Bundi - Jaipur

Day 01: Jaipur - Bundi (about 210 km)
Arrival at Jaipur airport or railway station. After arrival in Jaipur drive to Bundi. Upon arrival in Bundi, you will be transferred to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 02: Bundi - Kota - Bundi (about 78 km)
Today we have an excursion to the fort city of Bundi. Bundi is most famous for its baoris (step wells) as there are many impressive ones. On the top of the hill is majestic Taragarh Fort of Bundi, the interesting fort is worth exploring for hours. The fort has many reservoirs, which are annually emptied flooding the streets leading down to the city. After visiting the fort we leave for Kota. The town of Kota was once the part of the erstwhile Rajput kingdom of Bundi. In Kota we will visit the city fort and palace. This type of fort-palace complex is one of the largest to be found in the state of Rajasthan.

Day 03: Bundi - Jaipur (about 210 km)
After having breakfast drive to Jaipur. In the evening transfer to the airport or railway station.

Taragarh Fort

Taragaruh Fort, Bundi

Bundi is surrounded by the Aravalli hills on the three sides and is circumscribed by a massive wall with four gateways. Impressive medieval forts, palaces, havelis, baolis (step wells), water tanks, temples, chattris and a picturesque lake adds to the charm of Bundi. Bundi is very famous for its intricate carvings and murals. The monuments and their architecture reflect the splendor of the local Rajput chiefs. The walls of the palaces at Bundi are decorated with life size frescoes depicting the glory of its rulers.
History of Taragarh Fort
The main attraction in Bundi is the Taragarh or the Star Fort. The Taragarh Fort was built in 1354 AD. The fort is one of the m
ost impressive forts of Rajasthan. This fort is perched on a thickly wooded hill with a huge reservoir which once supplied water to the palace. Taragarh Fort is reached by steep road leading up the hillside to its enormous gateway. 
Inside the ramparts are huge reservoirs carved out of solid rock, and the Bhim Burj, the largest of the battle fields, on which there is mounted a famous cannon. The view of the town and surrounding countryside from the top of the fort are magical, especially at sunset.
The Bundi Palace
Adjacent to the fort is a palce that is considered to be one of the finest example of Rajput architecture. Intricately carved bracket pillars and balconies and sculpted elephants offer enchanting spectacle to the tourists. Garden of Bundi Palace, Bundi
Raniji ki Baori
Raniji ki Baori, Bundi A stepped well situated outside the old city walls, has high arched gate ornated with excellently carved pillars. The well has fifty steps and a depth of 46 meters. 
Sukh Mahal

Constructed during the reign of Umed Singh on the banks of Sukh Sagar it was a summer palace. The palace, which has hosted the famous English writer Rudyard Kipling, is now the government Irrigation Rest House.

Chaurasi Khambon ki Chhatri

A cenotaph with eighty four pillars is  located south of the town. It was constructed in the year 1683 by Rao Anirudh Singh to honor the services of Deva, his wet nurse. The two storied structure serves as a cenotaph as well as a temple. 

Festivals of Bundi
Kajli Teej Festival
The celebrations of the Kajli Teej festival are different than the usual Teej festival. Kajli Teej is celebrated on the third day of the month of Bhadra (July to August). The procession of Teej starts from the beautiful Naval Sagar and ends at the Azad Park in a decorated palanquin. Cultural performances by the local artists as well as by artists from Hadoti region are part of the celebrations. Though the Teej procession is carried out only for two days but the festival celebration continue till the eighth day, finally ending on Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.
